Are law firms ready for tomorrow's C-suite?

Are law firms ready for tomorrow's C-suite?

The C-suite of the future is all about innovation, agility, and driving transformation. But are law firms positioned to work with these visionary leaders?

Many firms get stuck in their old ways, resistant to much-needed change and technologies. Billable hours, hierarchical structures, and an aversion to risk hold them back from evolving to meet the needs of clients in a rapid market.

In my work with senior business operational professionals, I get to talk with a lot of people. I see tomorrow's C-suite leaders share a "change agent" mindset. They're looking for firms who can match their pace, accept fresh thinking, and

want to achieve ambitious goals.

It’s pretty clear that firms choosing to cling to "the way it's always been done" are getting left behind.

What do law firms need to do?

  • Facilitate a positive growth mindset that is embedded in the culture
  • Embrace technologies that promote efficiency, and productivity
  • Foster innovation across thinking, methodologies, and technology
  • Rethink pricing models that support superior client service
  • Cultivate diverse talent at all levels of the firm
  • Adopt a “go to market” frame-of-mind which minimizes barriers
  • Provide professional development resources for all employees
  • Absorb client service-oriented delivery methods that mirror client expectations

All of this boils down to one thing. If firms are proactive thought partners instead of reactive, there is a clearer path to greatly improved operations and legal services. It won't be easy, but when law firms become allies to the C-suite, the possibilities are endless.
