As summer fades into fall, law firm recruiting continues in full swing for the 4th quarter.
In 2025, I have seen law firms of all sizes bolster business operational teams. There is particularly high demand for business development professionals. I think it’s because these strategic team members impact client acquisition and retention directly, contributing to the bottom line.
A few thoughts on why law firm business development jobs are in high demand:
- Lawyers are increasingly requesting business development support to help build their practices. The most successful lawyers know that tapping business development professionals will help them bring in more work and meet the evolving needs and high expectations of their current clients.
- Business development professionals are deeply valued for innovative approaches, clear strategies, and personalized coaching that increases the flow of new work into their firms.
- Firms are providing business development resources to lawyers as a strategic retention tool for top legal talent.
- Lateral recruiting teams aren’t just competing for the competition’s star partners anymore. Firms are bringing in lateral lawyer teams and extending offers to their trusted business development professionals at the same time.
- Firms of all sizes are empowering business development professionals to make a measurable difference in their lawyers’ practices by providing access to resources that support client acquisition and achieve revenue growth.
As competition amongst lawyers swells, strong business development support often separates the thriving firms from the surviving firms. It is clear to me that firms are seeing this as well, adding to their BD teams.
